Custom build process
Designing and building a scale model of a building comes with many challenges, when I first get an image of a building the main thing to start work on is finding the correct scale to build at. Too big of a scale and the cost of materials is too much, too small of a scale and the finer details are sometimes lost, it is important to strike a balance between the two.
The computer program I use is called Stud.io. This program allows me to place any LEGO Brick in a 3D space and manipulate the orientation and placement within that environment.
I will start to work on the broader structure first, making sure to include support beams and overlap the bricks so that the build is stable and doesn't just fall apart or tip over.
Once a design is finished and finalised with the client, I purchase a mix of pre-owned and new bricks for the build from a marketplace called Bricklink.
After the bricks are ordered and eventually arrive, I must count and inventory all of the pieces to verify the contents.
The final step is to build the model myself, then deliver or take apart and design instructions for the client to build themselves.
